Here at Kendall Hunt we are lucky to work with so many fantastic authors! This month we are spotlighting author Peter Daempfle, author of Essential Biology: An Applied Approach.
Dr. Daempfle started early in life asking a key science question: “Why are things the way they are?” Starting at a young age, Dr. Daempfle moved to the Catskills and pursued an education in science and biology, eventually excelling to obtaining his Ph.D in Science Education and his M.S. in Biology at the University at Albany, State University of New York; M.S. in Education from the College of Saint Rose; and B.A. in Biology from Hartwick College.
A veteran in the world of science education, Dr. Daempfle has taught in science for over 20 years and has authored several books in addition to Essential Biology: An Applied Approach. In addition to his teaching and authorship, Dr. Daempfle has served as a science advisor in the standards-based reform effort where he has written several articles, reviews and even a laboratory manual on the subject.
Dr. Daempfle has held faculty positions at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Western New England University and currently serves as the associate professor of biology at the State University of New York, College of Technology in Delhi.
When sitting down to write Essential Biology: An Applied Approach, Dr. Daempfle had the goal of creating a text that captured the students’ interests.
“After 20 years of teaching, I had not found a text that captures what students are really interested in: stories,” said Daempfle. “Life, for each of us, is a unique story, with twists and turns making our biology fascinating. I wrote the text threading a literary approach through easy to read biology content. Most rewarding, my students love the focus on the literary and their conversations come alive in the classroom while using this text. We all have some fun while teaching with this text.”
At Kendall Hunt, we consider author service to be our top priority and developing your quality product in a timely manner is our goal. Our team has extensive experience in publishing texts, lab manuals, eBooks, and more.
“Kendall Hunt cares about it authors and treats them with respect as well as a beautiful product,” said Daempfle. “They are nice people, and while that sounds perhaps a bit old-fashioned, it matters in the publishing business.”
Dr. Daempfle’s love of science transcends throughout his life. He is a lover of the outdoors where he enjoys hiking, swimming and writing in the forest. His overall goal remains to help others realize the excitement that can come from studying the world around them. He hopes his books help readers to evaluate science reports and help empower them to become better consumers of science.
Dr. Daempfle is a dedicated family man which includes his wife Amy, his children Justina and Konrad, and his father, Tobias. They enjoy exercise and fitness as well as philosophy and natural studies.
